Secrets of the South

Our 'Secrets of the South Tour' is a full-day extended tour.

The bus will leave 8.30am from Portree Square and we’ll be heading to Broadford. There might be a another pick-up there for people staying in the south. After leaving Broadford we take the small, almost Italian road to Kylerhea where we can visit 2 wildlife hides: the otter hide (40 minute walk back and forth) and the eagle hide. From this last one we have a magnificent view on the Kyle Rhea straits and its tiny turntable ferry.
We drive back towards Broadford but just when we reach town we go left and enter the peninsula named Sleat. We follow the coast for a while, offering some magnificent views over the sea towards the mainland. Halfway the peninsula, at Kilbeg, we take the small road to Tarskavaig and Tokovaig, crossing some beautiful rural landscapes. Our destiny is an old ruin: Dunscaith Castle. We will stop here and have an easy walk (mind you, terrain can be boggy!) to the castle and to the magnificent views to the west.

After a lunch stop at the recently opened An Crùbh, the afternoon will be all about the beautiful road to Elgol. Enjoy the breathtaking views that sometimes change with every mile we drive, driving along Loch Slapin and the impressive Bla Bheinn, up to the point where we get our first view on Elgol, Loch Scavaig and the Cuillin on the other side of the loch. We’ll make a stop here and let you have a walk on the stony beaches, the rocks or the higher grounds near the pier. This place is famous for its sunsets but sadly we will be unable to wait for this to happen!

Back in Broadford we’ll unload the people that started here and we go back to Portree. But on our way we make two more stops at the Eas a Bhradain waterfall and Sligachan. We’ll be back in Portree around 5.30pm.
